We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of: Technical Director for an anticipated global award.

**This position is subject to project award and funding.

Position Description:

The Technical Director will provide strategic technical leadership and oversight to the project in the area of social and behavior change (SBC), social and behavioral research and evaluation, research utilization, and capacity strengthening. S/he will oversee SBC-related research, working with a range of stakeholders, and its applied use. The Technical Director must be able to act for or represent the Project Director, as necessary and ensure high quality technical products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads the project team, technical and operational aspects of the project, including planning and implementation; ensuring clarity over plans and priorities, and encourages effective teamwork.
  • Provides overall project leadership, management, and technical direction while ensuring compliance with USAID requirements, U.S. government regulations, and FHI 360 policies and procedures.
  • Liaises with USG partners and other donors and implementing agencies to ensure coordination of and synergy with other USAID health related activities.
  • Builds strong strategic partnerships with a wide group of stakeholders required to achieve project goals, including local civil society and the private sector.
  • Oversees report preparation to meet USAID and corporate reporting requirements to document program performance and monitor overall award compliance.
  • Leads preparation of project deliverables, including annual work-plans and project activity updates, and other project-related communication and reporting materials in accordance with USAID deadlines.
  • Provides overall financial oversight of the budget over the life of the project.
  • Oversees a team of senior technical, operations, compliance and finance staff and ensure clear roles and responsibilities and lines of communication are maintained among the team members.
  • Represents the project at regional, national and international fora, including technical and investment conferences, policy briefings, networking events, etc.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree in public health, communication or a related field with at least 10 years of experience; Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Proven record of technical leadership in SBC research and evaluation, including experience as a Principal Investigator for social/behavioral science research projects that have utilized a range of intervention types and varied in their social and behavior change and evaluation strategies, and targeted different levels of the socioecological model.
  • Demonstrated expertise and technical leadership in at least one of the project’s priority health areas (family planning and reproductive health [FP/RH], maternal and child health [MCH], nutrition, gender, youth, reproductive empowerment and/or other health and development outcomes).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures with social and behavioral research technical development.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; fluency in another language preferred.
  • Excellent and demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills. Excellent and demonstrated project management and technical skills.
  • Ability to influence, motivates, negotiate, and work well with others.
  • Proven experience working with USG agencies and host country government officials, particularly with Ministries of Health is highly desirable.
  • Experience with working across multiple sectors to achieve public health outcomes.
  • Experience with gender integration and addressing the needs of highly vulnerable populations into health programming.
